Alpaca Care Guide

Scanlan Theodore’s alpaca garments are crafted from a luxurious yarn made in Italy from a blend of baby alpaca, extra fine Merino and polyamide for comfort and stability. These pieces provide a beautiful warmth and soft hand feel, while remaining lightweight.

Benefits of Alpaca Wool
  • Warmth
  • Soft hand feel
How to wash Alpaca Wool

For laundering, we recommend a gentle dry clean only. Alpaca does not require laundering after every wear but should be laundered only when necessary, or at the end of each Winter season.

  • Gentle dry clean only
How to store Alpaca Wool

Alpaca should be stored folded, not hung, and away from sunlight. We recommend storing your natural wools and hairs with moth or cedar balls to prevent moth damage. For more structured garments, such as coats, we recommend that you store the piece hanging, using a coat-specific hanger to provide support to the shoulder area. For further protection, store in a light and breathable garment bag.

  • Store knitted garments folded in a clean, dry area with a moth repellent and away from sunlight
  • Store structured garments, like coats, hanging
How to care for Alpaca Wool

As a natural hair, alpaca may experience light shedding. This shedding will reduce over time and with each wear. Through abrasion and humidity, the long hair fibres may ball together. This can easily be rectified by using a soft bristle brush to gently detangle the hair. Brushing should only be performed as necessary, as over brushing can damage the garment.

  • Being a natural fibre, some shedding will occur. This will settle over time

Pilling will naturally occur during the course of wear for all natural wools and hairs. This is to be expected and can be easily removed with a depill comb or fabric shaver. We recommend regular de-pilling once every 3 wears to ensure the longevity of your alpaca piece.

  • To maintain the soft, long hair appearance, garments may be gently brushed using a soft bristle brush to detangle the hairs. This should be performed sparingly
